What is this world coming to?

Posted 04-29-2008 at 12:47 PM by jdlaverde

Okay so this is way off topic, but I am so thankful for freebie trading. Why? Might you ask. Well, before this, I was a middle school teacher, and without freebie trading after having the baby had I not of found freebies I would probably be back in the classroom (not that it is a bad thing)....but.....

The other night, hubby and I were watching the news and they were talking about a kid who was shot by his neighbor. I thought how sad, and what is this world coming too. Shortly after that, they flashed another child up on the screen, the shooter. It was a student I had taught 2 years before! The student that I had in class is only in 10th and killed a neighbor over something stupid.

It is sad to think about what our world is coming to, when teenagers (15-16 yr olds) are walking around with guns and just killing each other.

So anyway, I have to say,I am very thankful I am not in the classroom, b/c that would have ripped out my heart....he was in trouble a lot in school, but he was a good kid, just needed someone to care about him....

    How scary.

There was an incident where I live recently where a group of 10 year old's got mad at their teacher and brought tape and rope and knives to school because they wanted to teach her a lesson or torture her or something of that sort.

I about freaked. My daughter is 10 and I just CANNOT fathom her even coming close to thinking of doing something like that.

The violence just seems to have no age restrictions. It is totally scary.

God, you guys are so right I'm really concerned about where we go from here. I'm mean can it get any worse. Don't forget about the group of kids in FL that conspired and ganged up on one girl. It's insane!

ps. teacher's should get combat pay these days!

My husband and I had a youth group in Flordia about 7 years ago. These were no very nice kids, some lived in the woods, others with friends and the thing they all had in common, was none of them had a two parent family~~so when kids don't have a faimly~~they find one somewhere~~be it a gang~~or what ever. We have destroyed the value of human life to the point that, yes you kill for a pair of tennis shoes??

I believe that children need both a Mom and a Dad, because they cancel out each others excesses!!!

You know it is really disheartening.

This one kid, he really was a good kid. All the teachers took him under their wing, even the ones afraid of him!

His life is now over and for what???

Sadly, it makes me even more thankful to be out of the classroom, even though it breaks my heart.......

My friend Karen who is a teacher, says the same things about some of her students.. they are great kids, but always getting in trouble. It's sad to think that all it might take is the parents or family paying more attention to them.
I even see it with kids that are friends of my boys. I don't like having to step in and tell them they can't spend as much time with them anymore outside our home, but these kids do things outside their home that teenagers shouldn't be doing.
It's not easy anymore raising kids, it certainly has changed since I was one.
