Doing things that make you happy

Posted 06-02-2008 at 10:36 AM by vancollins

How much time during the day do you spend doing things that make you happy? Most of us spend a great deal of time doing those things that we do not enjoy. As a result, we sometimes become bitter and depressed, always looking forward to sometime in the future where we will be happy.

Granted, we can not all spend our days taking long walks on the beach or enjoying unlimited shopping trips at our favorite malls. But we can schedule a little "happy" time into our days.

How would your life change if you knew you only had 6 months to live? Would you spend more time at the office or more time with family and friends? Let's not wait until we receive some dreaded report from a doctor. Find something to do that makes you happy. Even if it is only for 1 hour a week. Do something that you look forward to that puts a smile on your face. If you do, it will make it a little easier to do those other things in life that are necessary but not enjoyable.

Now that I have spent 15 minutes imagining that I am a world renowned writer and inspirational speaker, I am off to clean the bathrooms!!! yuck!!!

As I've gotten older (39 next month), I've started enjoying the simpler things in life. I love spending time in the backyard in the summer with my husband, kids and dogs too! I look at the big trees and blue sky, if you just look around you can find enjoyment and beauty wherever, whenever.

I turned 35 and I am not where I want to be. I have been struggling all of my life, with money, status, and so many other things I will not bore you with. I wish I could see the world from a different angle...

    Know how you feel!!!

Wow, we are around the same age!!! I just turned 37 may 24th. I am not where I want to be in life right now either. I thought I would be so much farther ahead in life right now!!! Cause I'm not I get really depressed at times. When this happens I always think, someone, somewhere is so much worse off than me. I try really hard to enjoy each new day as if it were my last. Being a CNA in Oncology (Cancer) Unit has taught me how short life is and that it is merely a stepping stone!!!

    Yes,,,, I totally agree vancollins!

yeah, thats why I like Summer......... the kids can have fun, and I don't have to worry about getting them to school, picking them up from school, homework, blah blah blah, I can find more time to do what I want, and take it all in. Lifes very short , even if you live to 90, because by then, its hard to do much of anything.
So, I agree,,,,,, enjoy it while you can!!!!!!
Think I'll head to the beach this weekend. :)Watch the sunset. Thanks.
