I was just reminded of a couple of stories from a few years back

First
I was living with my parents (and really sic and had nearly died from it but on the mend that part is a long story and not important)
Anyway I was inside just putting in time till a show I was wanting to see came on
Dad was outside and suddenly came in with a 6 pack
Said some people where opening a new store in town and gave it to us for free just to get us to let them take a few minutes telling us what there inventory would be
Dad handed me the 6 pack and went back outside one of the other guy’s came over holding a big thin case (about 3x3 feet and 2-3 inches thick) in one hand and a square case about 1.5 feet in the other
I figured a bunch of big pictures and some free samples

I have always loved browsing new stores so I was interested
He opened the thin one first and I don’t really recall what he was talking about I just recall it didn’t make séance to me
So I confirmed the 6 pack was MINE for free now and just to make sure he couldn’t change his mind I opened one and started drinking it (a bit warm but plenty of time to cool off the other 5 later
Next he opened the square box and pulled out a vacuum cleaner
I thought ARE YOU NUTS do you see any rugs ?
And what makes you think I would buy it after you lied your way in anyway
So he went on and on
And on some more about how it could be used to clean the air to
After about 20 min of this I told him I had a show coming on in 30 min I wanted to see and I wanted him gone when it starts
He wasn’t but I did get a free 6 pack out of it anyway


Then about 6 months later when I was home alone another sales man came to the door carrying a really big case
I wanted to be polite and I was also wondering if it was more freebies
So I let him in
keep in mind that I stand 6/4 and was about 280LBS at the time.
So I let him in he opened this massive carrying case and pulled out a big binder thing must have been about 1.5 feet tall by about 2 feet wide and about 4-5 inches thick (I panicked but said nothing) and he set it on the table next to the main entry door opened it up and started into his sails pitch, I knew instantly I wasn't interested (some kind of insurance) but I wanted to be polite so I let him go on for a bit just waiting for him to pause to get some questions from me at this point I planned to tell him I wasn't interested and ask him to leave but this guy never stopped talking
there would be the odd short pause for a breath or air and I would try to say something but I couldn't get a word out before he would be back going, clearly he was planning his breathes to be quick so as to stop me from saying anything I got madder and madder as I was trying to brake him to his nonstop pitch finally I just yelled out ENOUGH (just that one word)

he grabed his stuff and RUSHED out the door saying some insult about me not being polite or impantent or something as he left
then as he was RUNNING to his car I realized just how short this guy was and how much I had frightened him with just 1 word
I broke out laughing
I hadn't intended to scare or threaten him I just wanted him to shut up for a second so I could politely ask him to leave
