And I blamed the kid until I heard the mother talk.

except these knuckleheads. You can't be a doctor

In fact you will never get any kind of job making a decent living. People marched and were hit in the face with rocks to get an education, and now we've got these knuckleheads walking around.

The lower economic people are not holding up their end in this deal.


These people are not parenting. They are buying things for kids . $500 sneakers for what ? ?

And they won't spend $200 for Hooked on Phonics.

I am talking about these people who cry when their son is standing there in an orange suit.

Where were you when he was 2 ? ?

Where were you when he was 12 ?

Where were you when he was 18 and how come you didn't know that he had a pistol ? ?

And where is the father ? ? Or who is his father ?

People putting their clothes on backward:
Isn't that a sign of something gone wrong?

People with their hats on backward, pants down around the crack, isn't that a sign of something ?

Or are you waiting for Jesus to pull his pants up ?

Isn't it a sign of something when she has her dress all the way up and got all type of needles [piercing] going through her body?

Brown or black versus the Board of Education is no longer the white person's problem.

We have got to take the neighborhood back.

People used to be ashamed. Today a woman has eight children with eight different 'husbands' -- or men or whatever you call them now.

We have millionaire football players who cannot read.

We have million-dollar basketball players who can't write two paragraphs We, as black folks have to do a better job. Someone working at Wal-Mart with seven kids, you are hurting us.

We have to start holding each other to a higher standard.

enlightening! I do have to say that I agree with a lot of it... sure some things are just bad luck and sure you cant know everything about your kids but you can certainly pull thier pants up and correct thier English when they speak... right? It definately is not a color thing though as I personally know many a white kid who wears thier pants down past thier crack and speaks ebonics... i dont find it attractive in a grown man and i certainly will pull my kids pants up if i see him walking around my house like that!! And I mean its one thing if the pants are worn a little lose and baggy... so they arent crotch huggers and looking like they are dressed for the 80's... but i have seen many kids wearing pants that they actuIally need to hold up or they will be down around thier ankles... pericings and tats are one thing but i just never understood the pants thing! Girls want to be undressed and leave nothing to immagination... and boys want to be so baggy that you cant tell if they have any kind of muscular definition to thier thighs... or even if they have a nice ass!! Weird I say. I do love watching the NFL because you get to see all those very masculine men running around in tights and its ok with all the men in that instance for some reason!!!... not that im complaining!!

But back on subject I do think all in all that there has been a huge decline from generation to generation in regards to discipline. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that you cant even smack your kid now without fear of the department of social services coming out to get you... but when my grandaddy raised my mommy he could whip her with a stick across her naked behind. I think fear and consequences play a big part in discipline and unfortunately as time goes by we seem as a society to have less of both of those. Ah how did i even get on this subject....lol.

Well Dr. Cosby... I do think that some of that stuff is right on the money... but i think its not a color thing so much as it is generational across all the races in America.

this is a great read.. thanks for sharing Dianna... i have to agree it is not a color thing but a generation thing.. unfortunately the government has taken parents means of dispilning away... there is no self respect among the younger generations and alot of the young parents.. seems the younger generations think they are the shit and wall frankly there is no way for us to show them there are not the shit.. but just a little shit trying to be a big man or woman in a much bigger world... i can tell you right now that my neice will not be walking around like these girls taht are in school now... or she will be walking around with her auntie's foot up her ass...lol jade kitty dont play those games.. i still believe in disipline and well she will have plenty...

I've always admired and adored AND respected the great Cosby, especially since he has NEVER changed his tone or tune in all the years of his offerings!!

Admittedly, as an older mom, I've learned the fine art of not needing physical discipline to ensure monk's on the right path and gratefully so, yet it is up to each parent(s) to define boundaries, instill consistency and ensure follow up. Parents from the inbetween generations (mine to monk's) seem to have an awkward time, especially with their sense of self (NO reflection on this forum's adorable members, I've seen little of this here!) and it's that wobble that is carried over to the children as they do learn what they see, not what we say.......excellent share, excellent input and thank you, Doc:)
