I want to tell you about a friend of mine. I met her just before My husband and I were married. She was at his family reunion. She was a little forward, talking to me, unusual, because I was just a girlfriend of a family member. She said her name was Bunny, like the rabbit. She smiled and talked like we knew each other all of our lives. She made me feel welcome to the family.

After I was married, she was around more and more, even though there was 6 hrs that separated us. She acted like I was her new best friend and I felt like I had an ally in the family. That was my little secret, because if there was a family member that made me mad, I would just go find Bunny and everything would be right again.

I learned that she was friendly and treated everyone like that, but that didn't stop me from thinking I was special, to be her friend.

She was a niece to my husband's mother's mother. (if you can follow that - that made her cousin to my mother in law) She was also the same age as my mother and treated me like a daughter. Years later, I met her daughter and was friends with her too, but not the same relationship that had blossomed with her and I.

I found out through the years, that she knew no stranger.... she said hello to people on the street and if they were willing, she stopped and had a conversation with them. You didn't want to go with her to Walmart, if you were in a hurry!

We moved 10 yrs ago and became closer (in distance) to her and it only strengthened our relationship, because she was at our house every Thanksgiving for food and cards. Oh... could she eat! Loved food and maybe that is why we got along at family reunions. We would talk food or play cards every chance we could get.

Last year at her 80th Birthday party, she had well over 80 people attend. I realized even more that I was not the only special person in her life. She had many.

She would have been 81 this coming weekend. We were suppose to go out and eat on Saturday. Now we will be burying her. God will be celebrating the coming home of one special lady.

I'm jealous. I wasn't through with her here. She was more like a mother to me over the past 20 yrs than my own mother. God bless her 2 daughters and all the adopted ones. We will all miss her. She was so full of life.

Remember to touch the ones in your life every chance you get, because you never know how much that one hug or caring conversation meant to the one you touched.

This, my dear Sharon...is absolutely the most delightful and moving piece I have read in eons!!!!!!!!

Most certainly, you are saddened by the loss of such a marvelous creature, as assuredly are MANY others (and I certainly would be!!).......but.......to have been able to have someone in your life like that...even for just a day, well...that's far more happiness and yes, love - real love...then many feel all their lives:)

God truly has blessed you....and now? It's time for her to make a new bunny trail... with Him. Can you think of a happier ending for such an angel? Cherish that memory, as I know you will...it's ME that is jealous:) xo

What a touching story and wonderful tribute to your precious friend, Bunny. I am so glad for you that you had such a wonderful relationship with someone so special as she.
It is a wonderful message that you are sending out to us.....to let those we love know how much we care about them while we still have the chance.
I know you will miss your dear friend and for that I am sorry........but you can take strength in the fact that you will definitely meet again someday and your friendship will go on forever.

What a touching story. It's very sad when we lose someone we love and for a lot of people it's hard to say what we really feel (I know it's hard for me), you my dear friend had no trouble saying what you feel and I'm sure your friend Bunny is looking down on you and smiling. I am very sorry for your loss, but remember you will be together again in the next life.

It is also very true that we never know when the last hug, kiss or words will be with the people we love. It's important to live life to it's fullest and tell the people in our lives how much we care about them. I love ya Sharon and if you need someone to talk to, I'm all ears!

thanks for sharing your loving memory of such a special woman. In our busy lives we tend to forget about those that just bring a smile to our lifes when they enter the room. Its stories like this that should make us stop and be thankful for all those in our lifes... I know i am very thankful for each and every person in my life... those on here and those that i speak with each day... I am very sorry for your loss SB but know that she is those that touched her life and made her the woman that you grown so fond of and loved.

I'm sorry for your loss Sharon. Your Bunny sounds like a wonderful lady. Very much like my Mother in Law, Betty, who is also is heaven 17 years now.
