A lot of people have felt lost on how to get started getting people to FreeLunchRoom whether it be from their community or elsewhere online. Here's a list of tools and some material which you can use to promote your FLR referral link which can be found here.

First we'll start with getting referrals online. Many go first to traffic or link exchanges, but their impact is very minimal. You can definitely use them and see what you get, but you'll want to focus your effort elsewhere to maximize your exposure.

What ultimately brings in traffic is a lot of sources linked to your site (quality of sites links to your site matters as well). Search engines look at this factor for site ranking and frequency of the site to show up with minimal keywords. What I mean by that is, the more popular a site becomes (due to high traffic source and many links to them from other sites), the few keywords that need to be inputted for the site to show up higher on the list. For example: when you type in 'free lunch room' into Google, FreeLunchRoom shows up at the top since we have an extensive community with lots of content and links from other sites and you don't see many results for school cafeteria lunch rooms. As FLR becomes more popular and linked around the web, FreeLunchroom starts popping up at the top of the search engines when only 'free' or 'freebies' are typed into the search engine rather than 'free lunch room'.

Blogs are becoming one of the greater voices for people to express their ideas and promote what they're doing. This is very easy way to start a web page and be able to publish everything that you're doing. What makes it even easier is that there are a ton of sites that set it up for you and all you have to do is enter information. Two sites which will do that for you are www.blogger.com and WordPress.com Get a Free Blog Here. From either of these sites you just have to sign up and right away you can start posting all of the information you want to be promoting. This includes your FLR referral link and information you want to share involving freebies. I've had people ask me, "What do I do after post my FLR referral link and post about freebies". Keep posting and lots of it. What I mean by that is, load up your blog with lots of content. This can be from your day to day activities, proof pictures of how much you made that day (or in past) to freebie tutorials and explaining how people can make money using FLR. The more content you have the better off you are.

If you have your own website and you have the know-how to get going with that, then that's great. Keep updating your content and create an extensive knowledge base of information. Again I'll emphasize, once you set up a link to FLR, the better off both sites will be.

Social media sites are another great way to get the word out. This can be from Facebook to MySpace. While self promotion on these sites are limited, you can still create an informational page where interest can be generated and you can have those people contact you directly about FLR. You may already been on many of these sites and have lots of contacts that may be interested in finding out more once you post information up about FLR.

The second place you can advertise is within your community (yes, real life!). Everyone has those bulletin boards in numerous place in their community from the grocery store to playgrounds. These would be great places to post fliers promoting your FLR referral link (please make sure to get permission to post them).

Now when you're posting information, fliers or banners, you'll want to use some common sense on how you do it. A few factors you'll want to consider are: the number of people that will be able to view it, the audience that will be viewing it, and where you place it. Targeting large or densely populated locations are going to be ideal for placing a banner or flier. An example would be on a college campus (where you can get upwards of a 30,000 person audience in a small area) would maximize the number of people viewing it per flier posted. You can get creative and find locations within your community which will garner this exposure. Then I'm sure follows the most asked question, "how do I explain freebies to people?" Keep it simple. Typically the more detail you try to go in, the more confusing the explanation is going to be. The best one sentence explanation you can give: You can make money trying out sponsored products and services.

This is only a small list of things you can do to promote your FLR referral link and I know there are people that have found ways that go beyond what this starter guide has explained.

Hi Stace, nice to meet you. You look like your doing about same as me. I havent got any trades for sometime now. Yea not sure how well it works to promote FLR elsewhere if it even get any people to come here. We could certainly use more people here. Alot of the old timers seemed to quit trading or do it not much anymore. And I dont see to many newbies who just are starting coming in either. That would help if you see more of those people. That is really what matters the most.

If you actually think these "flood gates" are real, than I have no clue what to tell you. It's been months and nothing has happened. This isn't technically a freebie forum anymore, the rate of traffic that this site receives a day are mostly from people that are already registered, most people come here to socialize. I've never heard of the term " flood gates" for advertising, or maybe the people here are actually believing that there's going to be just a SURGE in people coming to the forums, and signing up.

lol...level headed and logical...most excellent:) True, the term "flood gates" has always been a marketing tool that should have left folks with a smile, not unrealistic expectations (imo!!!). lol...new folks is here as it is....what we do and say will either keep them around - or not....doing outside marketing takes time as does working referrals....

I would suggest, however, that technically...it IS still a trading forum as there are trades occurring as we speak - start checking out trs...I see new folks in trs all the time, thus....they must be trading to get those, eh? :)

There is absolutely nothing wrong with having social connections nor socializing nor gaining friends nor chatting, etc...on this or any other forum...it will add to the ambiance, not detract, and the more comfy new folks are, the more apt they are to stay around AND actually complete trades! Again, just a nickel from an old woman...LOL!
