Re: I don't understand the point...

Ok, first off Im not understanding what is going on... I don't know what to think cause I know that it won't change the powerful minds that lead this so called country. I know that I am one of the poor and not even middle class. I know cause every dam paycheck is spent before Its even cashed.... Now thats sad. I don't like politics at all. This is why but since Im getting older and have two boys of my own, I know that I am going to have to get involved some time or another. I am so screwed up with what to think, how to feel and what to say when it comes to this topic or any political issue... Im not stupid but sometimes I feel as though I know somthing is wrong and you just can't put your finger on one thing. Im tired of seeing Americans always arguing. Its not right. What do we do to stop this? How to we get congress to hear our voice out of millions? How can we compete with the higher class?
My family is suffering as alot of Americans because of the poor choices America has choosen. What do you do???

This is still a great Country, and it's YOUR Country! Don't let them get away with what they're doing. If you have concerns or don't agree with the choices they are making in Washington them TELL them so. Remember, because they seem to have forgotten, that they work for US. And, there are a hell of a lot more of us than there are of them! They feel free to decide our fate but it's their fate that is in our hands. Remind them of that. We have to stand up together and make our voices heard before it's too late.

Empower yourself. Contact your Senators and your Congressperson:

U.S. Senate
United States House of Representatives, 111th Congress, 1st Session

Copy what you just wrote and send it to them. YOU matter. We all matter...damn it!

Re: I don't understand the point...

As far as I am concerned there is no middle class anymore, if there is i'd like to see it. like many of you i can barely make it from paycheck to paycheck. my husband is retired and i have lost my job. so we only get one check a month. that hard to do. and yes it is spent before it is cashed. times are getting so hard my boys have moved back home. a combination of helping us out and helping them out at the same time. costs way too much to live anymore.
i would like to see congress and all those on capital hill that make more in one month than we do in years, be reminded about what it is like to have to struggle all the time. some claim to have come from that lifestyle, but something happens to a person when they get to capital hill, they forget where they come from. they forget who put them there and why. let congress get minimum wage for awhile, let them drive themselves in economic cars. no more chaufers. take some of their wages and put it back into the economy, they can afford more than we can. why should we suffer and bear the burden that they put upon us. let them bear the burden for once.
and how do we know what exactly is going on on capital hill anyway. no one ever gets the whole story. different areas report different things. you see that during elections. and yes i voted for obama. mainly because i didnt like other guy. and a lot of our elected politicians get in office that way. which is the better of two evils. guess you never really know until they are there.
as for me i will keep going as best i can for myself and my family. i will keep voting, hoping things get better. and i will keep voicing my opinion to capital hill, even if it is only seen by interns and dismissed. i will keep trying. who knows one day things might change for the better.

Re: I don't understand the point...

Everyone's offered up great insight yet I'm seeing a key trigger in breedenk's statement as I've always felt this was a huge part of what's been wrong with our country for some time....old money! You know, folks' family line that's been around for generation after generation, just passing the money down - spoiled children, spoon fed and not nearly enough discipline - and once again, we're right back at that spot...old money is sponsoring new money in both the house and senate and remembering that our president elect is from kings, well....I mean really. Does anyone honestly believe they understand the workings of the Average American Joe & Jane? They've paid a great deal of lip service - to what they term middle class. They grump about high dollar holders yet seem to manage to be in that group, thus biting the hand that's fed them and fed them well in previous administrations:)

But...besides reading a few emails and perhaps speaking with a few in house that may have a modicum of compassion for "real" folks, like us....well, hell...how could they know what it's like to NOT have housing? I'll betcha a dollar to a bag of donuts not but a few have ever had to sleep in their car for weeks, due to necessity, not a whim. How could they know how scary it is to get the power shut off, your child freaking out as that's what they know, and then have to turn around and find hundreds of dollars for a deposit - which if you had it to begin with, the power wouldn't be shut off? How would they know what it's like to not eat or feed your child 'cause the lil food you've picked up from a pantry froze as your refrigerator is junk - and you'd have a new frig if you had the money, right? lol...I suggest they don't understand one bit of this and sit in their ivory towers thinking...."those" people have really screwed themselves up, when their ONLY thought should be..."There but for the grace of God go I"!!!

"They" say...they are there to help and that's true...to help each other. Bureaucracy got overdosed with greed over the last 4 decades, thus there is no "we" except in rhetoric - makes them sound delightful....but so full of bs there ain't a diaper big enough to hold it all! As long as greed remains the driver on Capital Hill, nothing will be allowed to grow and flourish again - for that Average American Joe & Jane, who are no longer in a true middle class structure as they've fallen down one too many times, between angst of feeling the need to prove themselves to their neighbors or like the majority, been replaced and recycled by big business that continues to push for ways to save business....NOT the people, NOT for the people and most definitely NOT BY the people...just for them:) lol...when the government decided to "bail out" so many businesses, many of which do not even practice ethically, well...shoot...that shoulda been a huge warning sign to those of us struggling daily just to manage the mere basics of life for our children.

Food, water, shelter...the basics, right? Granted to every American as necessity, right? Well, get this...we're getting pushed by law to spend something we don't have, yet the rosters for housing help are backed up by a year! The government has lowered the level of poverty line, supposedly making it more accessible for folks to get "help"...yet other agencies in that same government have RAISED income levels to thwart folks getting financial assistance and yes, even food stamps! What's the result is folks who need food, if nothing else, are limited to small venues that survive only on the gifts/donations of local grocery stores...resulting in spoiled food stuff and such...yet what other option is there but work within what's available???

lol....what the government at large is REALLY doing - in my humble opinion and from what the last few years have shown me personally - is slowly but surely ensuring the weakest links are phased out. They manage to slap the heck out of self-esteem and disable any chance of discovering self-worth, which usually provides the strength and courage in folks to find "a better way". Our illustrious government has a few programs around that they use for statistics....so those on the hill can say how wonderfully they're doing and "look at me, I was part of this great thing!"....YET what is really happening is a number of "help" programs are being streamlined and revamped in order to ensure folks are NOT helped, thus...well...faltering to failure & with no recourse. They shut the door and I guarantee...when it slams shut, it's locked!

In all of this grandeur stemming from what used to be the greatest nation in the world (and dont' take that wrong, I am still a proud American, but not for what it is...for what I know it was and can be again!), the one thing that cannot be taken away from each and every person they assign numbers to for their "statistics" is....prayer and the power of the spirit, regardless of what ideology you carry:) As long as we can continue to keep that spirit within....feel the power and know the glory, well....all of this will only go on for so long and guarantee....a power far mightier than a presidential signature WILL intervene:) I know this much...if not for faith and in that, hope, well....many more of this "great" nation would have moved on to a much better place by now...and that ain't here:)

The other thing they cannot take away but try diligently to do is our sense of humor. We can talk and squeak all we want and yes, united is the only way to provide a clear front...however, take it back to disabling self-worth...losing that power, taking it away from good hearted Americans who've hit a hard road due to nothing short of politics and ids, well....lol....without a sense of humor which allows us to find a positive, we are totally screwed. We may be anyway, but darned if I'll go out without a smile...that is the last thing I want my child to see...they certainly didn't ask for this but pity those remaining in office when this generation comes of age.......God bless!

Who do you have? I have Loretta Sanchez. Good luck with that one, you know. We also have Feinstien and Boxer as our Senators. I guarantee that I'll be keeping an eye on those two. Boxer is...hopeless I'm afraid, but I think Feinstien is basically a good egg. We just need to keep leaning on them!

Edit to add:

Wow. Monksmom, I just read your post and I have to tell you how truly touched I am by your every word you wrote. Beautifully stated and the sad truth for far too many Americans. God Bless You!

I find this video very inspirational: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20uxnXXd_oE
