Oh...I just love these and yes, am being facetious:)

The sad, sad thing is....they DO start this stuff around the holidays when folks are naturally more depressed...and it's usually about money. It can take up to 2 weeks for a bank to return a check...yet in that time, some poor soul who has decided to cash that check has sent this bogus issuer their OWN money...believing only that Santa came early, yet are in for the surprise of their lives!!!

This kind of thing and general contracts, apartment leases, even house purchase documents and job applications...is one of the main reasons I ever got into adult literacy tutoring. Most folks don't realize it, but there is a massive number of adults, especially adults my age and then very young (teens, early 20's)...these truly good-hearted folks were failed by the system for various reasons, lost in cracks somewhere...and in that, never learned to read and many can barely print their names.

In that, they are constantly abused as if you can't read, you can't understand or even begin to comprehend "documents" that our society has in droves, and although a huge majority have found "cheats" to at least try and make this not an issue, whelp...it is just those folks who get nailed with this kinda junk. They know numbers and understand checks, yet as they cannot decipher the words in a manner other than picking out a few words, well...they would be victim to this.

Heck, if you have problems understanding an apartment lease or completing a job application, how would you ever be able to understand the ramifications of what underlies something of this nature!!!

I'd like to say thank you for bringing this out...may it serve as a reminder to those who do just pick out words...and let it be the right ones...like....LOOK OUT FOR SCAMS! Ask someone if you don't fully understand...asking is seeking knowledge...and that is ALWAYS a good thing:)

ps. This goes for everywhere in the world, not just Canada, not just the U.S...literacy is still an issue and in that, a spammer's paradise for sure!

There is indeed a surprisingly large percentage of adults who aren't able to read... alot of people don't realize that, or the risks involved. Some people just sign everything they receive...

*nod* He hasn't received the cheques yet, which makes us believe they aren't coming from anywhere in Canada, since it should only take 1 or 2 days within the country, and its been 3-4...
